Residents of two housing societies told to vacate houses on

Residents of Emerald Court and ATS village, two housing societies next to Supertech’s two non-compliant residential towers in Noida, Apex and Ceyane, that will be demolished on August 28, will have to vacate houses at 7 am, according to the Noida authority.

In a review meeting held on Thursday, the authority has directed the residents to vacate houses at 7 am on the demolition day and they can return by 4 pm, once the site is declared safe.

“The security staff at these two housing societies can stay till 12 noon. The residents will also have to take their vehicle away to a safe zone for the day,” said Noida authority.

The authority has directed the police to close the traffic for 30 minutes (2:15-2:45 pm) on Noida-Greater Noida expressway. Area around the twin towers have been declared exclusive zone, where no person or vehicle will be allowed.

On May 17, while giving an extension to the demolition process, the Supreme Court had asked the Noida authority to complete the demolition process by August 28.

Edifice Engineering has bought a Rs 100 crore insurance policy to cover any damage caused by the demolition.

On January 12, the top court pulled up the builder for not following its order to demolish the two 40-storey towers, which it said were built in violation of norms.

The demolition action plan submitted by Supertech in court mentions six months, of which three and a half months are for demolition, while the rest is for site clearance.

The two buildings together have 915 apartments and 21 shops. They are part of the builder’s Emerald Court project.

On August 31, 2021, the Supreme Court directed Supertech and Noida authorities to demolish the two residential towers within three months and refund homebuyers’ money within two months.

Earlier, on April 11, 2014, the Allahabad High Court ordered the demolition of the two buildings within four months and a refund of apartment buyers’ money which then moved to the Supreme Court.
